Stained Glass for Beginners

During this fun and informative class, you will get your hands on glass and learn the process of creating stained glass from start to finish. You don’t need any experience, just enthusiasm, and a willingness to try something new. We supply everything you will need to create your holiday ornament, and a selection of colored glass will be provided. We will teach you how to “cut” glass, apply the copper foil, and solder your piece together. By the end of the 3 hour class, you will have your very own creation completed and ready to take home with you.

Intermediate Stained Glass

The Part 2 to “Stained Glass for Beginners”  this 2-part intermediate class will cover several new topics to expand your knowledge base as you create a larger project than in the beginner class. During the construction of your piece, we will talk about how to design a pattern and prepare your templates from that pattern, how to use stained glass patina to “color” your solder joints after the project is soldered, and the different methods available to you to frame your piece. While you’re working on your project, there will be plenty of time for general questions as well. Hand tools will be available for use during class, and supplies are included in the class cost. But, if you’re ready to get started on your own, there will be starter kits and tools available for purchase at a discounted rate. This class is a 2-day workshop, running 9 a.m. to noon on both July 24 and 25.

Intro to Leaded Stained Glass

Maker Playground | Ages 16+ | $195 residents / $292.50 non-residents

Now that you’ve mastered the copper-foil method of stained glass by taking Stained Glass for Beginners and Intermediate Stained Glass, it’s time to learn about the age-old method of lead came stained glass. In this introductory class, you will work along with the instructor to build a small leaded, glass panel, learning the process along the way. You will be able to select art glass of your choice for your project, but everyone in class will be using the same design to build along with the instructor. We will cover lead stretching, cutting and forming, as well as soldering of lead joints and framing with lead. The instructor will demonstrate the cementing and cleaning process, and, if time allows, you will complete this process in class. If not, the instructor will send you home with your project and a batch of stained glass cement to complete at home (because of the curing time needed for the cement, it may not possible to complete that activity during class). All materials provided. Cost covers registration for both days.
*Please advise the instructor if you are pregnant, nursing, or have respiratory concerns and the class will be slightly adjusted to provide an increased level of comfort and safety.

Intro to Resin Art

In this Resin Art Class, participants will learn to create unique art pieces by using repurposed materials like reclaimed glass, broken mirrors, and other upcycled items. The class covers resin art basics, sustainable design techniques, and hands-on crafting. Participants will arrange glass pieces and other materials on a canvas, then encase them in resin for a glossy, finished look. This ecoconscious class emphasizes creativity, sustainability, and is suitable for all skill levels. Optional takehome kits will be available to continue creating with repurposed materials..

Intro to Mosaic Art

Maker Playground | Ages 16+ | $135 residents / $202.50 non-residents

Join us for a 2-session Intro to Mosaic Art class, where you’ll create stunning, one-of-a-kind mosaic art! In session 1, you will dive into designing your masterpiece using colorful tiles, glass, and repurposed materials. You’ll learn the basics of mosaic art, cutting, and arranging your pieces. Then, in session 2, we’ll bring it all together by grouting and finishing your work to reveal your vibrant, textured creation. Perfect for all skill levels—come get creative and go home with a beautiful piece of art! Optional take-home kits will be available to continue creating with repurposed materials.

This class is a 2-day workshop, running 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on both July 22 and 23.
