“Design Your Own” classes give registered students the opportunity to design a one-of-a-kind project on their own with the staff guidance and tools Maker Playground provides. Classes are open to all skill levels; more complex machines will be operated by class instructors. It’s time to get creative! Sign up now for classes within this make-and-take series! October 21: Wood ‘Catchall’ Tray
What: In this class, participants will design a shaped “catchall” wood tray to be cut from locally sourced hardwood on the CNC router at Maker Playground. Your very own, one-of-a-kind tray can be used to use to store small items like your keys, watch, or phone or to serve up a fun charcuterie board! Registrants will draw and utilize software to ideate and create their design, and staff will operate the CNC Router to bring the creation to life. Participants will then sand and finish their trays with food safe oil before taking them home. No prior experience required. Materials provided.

November 4: Rubber Stamps
What: In this class, participants will get to design their very own rubber stamps that will be engraved on the CO2 laser engravers at Maker Playground. Make a stamp of your logo, a doodle, your name, or anything you can think of! Participants will have the option to draw their stamp idea out on paper or use digital methods to create a design, and staff will operate the laser to bring the creation to life. Participants will then have the chance to use the bandsaw and sanders in the Maker Playground woodshop to cut a wooden block to affix their rubber stamp. Each participant will take home their custom stamp(s) and a new ink pad. No prior experience required. Materials provided.
